Fusion plasmas
Within Association EURATOM-ÖAW we develop:
- Fusion plasma diagnostics: Based on the injection of fast neutral Li - and He-beams, to measure spacial and temporally resolved profiles of electron and ion densities as well as temperatures. Diagnostic experiments are conducted at large (JET) and medium size (ASDEX-upgrade) tokamaks and stellerators (WENDELSTEIN 7-AS). The interaction of the injected beam with the plasma is modeled using collisional-radiative codes. To this purpose atomic collision data for the relevant reactions are collected and evaluated.

In addition we construct and build our own ion sources to produce beams of highly charged ions for our collision experiments:
- ECR ion source development: An all-permananet magnet 14.5 GHz Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) ion sources (SOPHIE) has been built and is used for production of highly charged ion beams.
