Format

The meeting will provide an informal workshop atmosphere with ample time for discussions. For this purpose, the program will contain a limited number of invited lectures on the main conference topics and some oral contributions selected from the submitted abstracts. The other contributions will be presented in poster sessions. There will be no parallel sessions. This format is intended to promote stimulating discussions on current developments in the field and we expect all the participants to attend the entire meeting.

The Conference Proceedings containing both the invited and contributed papers will be rapidly published by Elsevier in a special issue (but consecutively numbered) of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section B (NIMB). The manuscripts must be submitted during the conference and will be subject to a regular review. The total number of participants will be limited to around 100.

Instructions for Poster Presentations

The size of our poster boards is: height = 200 cm and width = 100 cm (portrait!).
Poster sessions will be preceded by "poster introductions", where the authors have the opportunity to orally present highlights of their work as a "2 minute commercial". Each presenter of a poster should therefore prepare one or two (=max.) OH-transparancies or computer slides for this 2 minute oral presentation (Attention: this is not intended to be a complete talk in 2 minutes, but rather an opportunity for you to attract attention to your poster).

Instructions for Oral Presentations

The time allocated for talks is
Plenary lectures (PL): 40 min + 5 min discussion;
Invited progress reports (I): 25 min + 5 min discussion;
Short oral contributions: 15 min + 5 min discussion.
Please keep within this time; all chairpersons will be instructed to rather limit your speaking time than the discussion time. The lecture hall will be supplied with a digital projector (beamer) connected to a PC (running MS-Windows XP) which is prepared for MS Powerpoint 2003 and Adobe Acrobat 7. Electronic presentations should preferentially be transferred to this PC via USB memory-stick or CD/DVD (our PC cannot handle floppy disks). In case you really need to use your own laptop (different operating system, different presentation software, etc.) a video-switch will be available to connect several laptops with the beamer. Of course we will also provide an old-fashioned overhead projector. Requirements beyond the above should be mailed to us long in advance.
