STM-1 and XPS machine

Omega chamber with EC-UHV transfer system attached (07/2016)

This machine, also called Omega for short, is based on an Omicron Compaqlab UHV system. It consist of a main chamber (preparation and analysis, p<10-10 mbar) and load lock chamber for quick sample loading.

It contains:

  • STM-1 Omicron (maximum image size 1 micron) operational at room temperature
  • Hemispherical energy analyzer Specs Phoibos 100 for LEIS and XPS
  • Reverse view LEED optics Omicron SpectaLEED
  • Differentialy pumped ion gun Specs IQE 12/38
  • Dual anode (Mg|Al) X-ray source VG
  • Quadrupole mass spectrometer SRS RGA 100/12
  • Sample manipulator, radiative heating up to 1000K
  • E-beam evaporator for metal deposition Focus EFM3
  • Quartz crystal microbalance

Recently it has been extended for transferring samples directly between an electrochemical environment and ultrahigh vacuum without contamination from the ambient atmosphere.

Here picture of the chamber few years ago (that time with bigger Phoibos 150 analyzer). It was used for all the graphene work in our group.
