Mars Seen Through a 12" Refractor

Mars Seen Through a 12" Refractor

Although Mars was not high above the horizon, on a day of good seeing, 2003-Sept-18, I took a small digital camera, attached it to the eyepiece of the 12" Alvan Clark refractor at the Institute of Astronomy, Vienna, and took a series of images. Comparison with NASA's Solar System Simulator (based on spacecraft images) shows a larger polar cap and quite a few changes around Solis Lacus, probably caused by windblown dust.
